Distribution Lists

A Distribution List (DL) is a named group of users with a single email address. When an email is sent to that address, all members of the group receive the email to their individual mailboxes. Distribution Lists requested using this form may only be comprised of users with an active OU/HSC email address.

To create a mailing list that includes external email addresses and can be utilized by external senders, please consider creating a Listserv.


This form may also be used to request a security group (used to grant permissions to certain systems/services) or mail-enabled security group (a security group used to grant access to systems/services that can also be used as a Distribution List). Unlike standard DLs or Listervs, security groups are typically only requested by IT employees or under the direction of IT employees.

Cost

OU IT provides this service for FREE to all Norman campus faculty, staff, and students.

Availability

Distribution Lists are available to full time faculty or staff members, student organizations, and University departments

Features

Owners of a Distribution List have the option to allow incoming email from all email addresses or just those with an ou.edu or ouhsc.edu email address. Distribution Lists are, unless otherwise specified, able to be searched via the Global Address List (GAL). Owners of a Distribution List must be full-time employees and may add/remove members (recipients) at groups.ou.edu.
