Spam calls are similar to email spam in the sense that they're a form of unwanted communication. Spam calls and text messages are distributed in bulk and in most cases unsolicited, which means they occur without any prior request. Call spoofing is when the caller deliberately sends false information to change the caller ID. Most spoofing is done using a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) service or IP phone that uses VoIP to transmit calls over the internet.
The University can block individual numbers from calling in but are unable to filter out all spam calls. Spoofing of university numbers is difficult to prevent because it is coming from outside sources out of university control.
