Firefox & SSL-Enabled OU Sites

The Firefox web browser is currently experiencing issues when connecting to SSL-enabled OU websites. Affected websites include: dn.ou.edu, iadvise.ou.edu, accounts.ou.edu, and others. Version 37 disabled TLS fallback for encrypted sites. Upon visiting an affected site, users may receive an error message warning that the secure connection failed.

A change to Firefox’s default configuration will allow these sites to be displayed. To do this, type ‘about:config’ (without the quotes) in the address bar. Confirm that you’ll be careful and bypass the warning message if it appears. When you see the list of attributes, search for ‘security.tls.version.fallback-limit’ (without the quotes) in the search bar, double-click on the option, and set the value to ‘1’ (one). Once this option is configured, the affected sites should load properly. An additional workaround for this issue is to use a different browser.
