Changing your Computer Name

Windows

  1. Search or run sysdm.cpl.  This will open up the “System Properties” window.
    1. Alternatively, right-click “This PC” > “Properties” > “Advanced System Settings” > “Computer Name” tab
  2. Click “Change” in the center of the windows.  This should open up the “Computer Name/Domain Changes” window.
  3. Enter your new Computer Name in the “Computer Name” text box in the middle of the window.
  4. Click “OK” on the bottom of the window.  A message should pop up saying that the system will need to be restarted before any changes can take effect.
  5. Click “OK” on the “System Properties“.  You will then get a dialog box asking if would like to restart now or later.  Restart at your discretion.

 

Mac OS X

Click the Apple icon on the top left of the computer screen.

  1. Select “System Preferences” from the drop down list.  A new window should open.
  2. Select “Sharing” from the windows.  You should be taken to the Sharing page.
  3. Click “Edit” on the Sharing Window underneath the Computer Name text box.
  4. Enter in the new Computer Name in the “Local Hostname” box and Click “OK“.
  5. Exit out of the “Sharing” page.
