All network interfaces for devices capable of communicating on a wireless or Ethernet wired network have a Media Access Control (MAC) Address. If you are attempting to connect your device to the wired campus network or our AccessOU network, you will need to locate the correct MAC address type on your device. This list may help you in locating this address on your device. If not, please consult the manual of your device. MAC address may also be referred to as Network Interface Card Address, Physical Address or Hardware Address and often comes in this format: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx or xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx.

MAC addresses appear as a string of 12 hexadecimal digits sometimes delineated by colons, dashes or periods. Hexadecimal digits include the numbers 0 through 9 and the letters A through F. 

Examples: 00-10-91-af-24-9c or 00:10:91:af:24:9c

General instructions are provided below for location MAC addresses on different system types. Please note that these instructions may not reflect new updates or releases which change the navigation for the systems in question. On some devices, the wired address may be referred to as an "Ethernet" connection.

Some devices also offer both wireless and wired connection options; this is often seen on laptops, desktops and gaming consoles. Please pay attention to the descriptors (wired, wireless, Wi-Fi, physical, bluetooth, etc.) used to describe the MAC address on the device and ensure that you are registering the correct MAC address type at the correct location.  OU network registration processes required that the correct type of MAC address be registered. Registering the incorrect MAC address will not result in a successful connection.

• Registering Smart Devices for AccessOU - To register a wireless connection for a smart device to utilize the AccessOU network, you must register only the wireless MAC address at access.ou.edu (Norman campus). Please see our AccessOU knowledge base article for additional instructions.
• Registering Devices for Wired (Ethernet) - To register a wired connection for a computer, gaming station, or other wired connection, you must register only the wired MAC address at net-reg.ou.edu. Please see ou Register a Wired Device knowledge base article for more instructions. 

1. Go to Settings.
2. Select General.
3. Select About.
4. The MAC address will be listed as the Wi-Fi Address.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Select About Phone.
3. Select Status.
4. The MAC address will be listed as the Wi-Fi MAC Address.

• During Chromecast setup.
  1. From the "Connect to Wi-Fi" screen of the setup process, in the top right, tap More.
  2. Tap Show MAC Address.
• After Chromecast setup:
  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings > Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check your MAC address.
• Chromecast with GoogleTV:
  1. In the top right corner of your TV screen, select Settings > System > About > Status > MAC address.

For some models of TV, you may need to consult the website of your device manufacturer for directions on locating its Mac address.

1. From the home screen, press Menu.
2. Go to Settings.
3. The WiFi MAC Address will be listed in the Device Info section.

1. To get to the Network screen, press the Menu button on your controller.
2. Next select Settings.
3. Now select Network.
4. Select Advanced Settings to see a list of the MAC for your Xbox One’s wired and wireless adapters.

Roku / Roku TV

1. Turn on your Roku device and navigate to the Home screen.
2. Using your Roku remote, scroll down and select Settings.
3. Within the Settings menu, scroll down and select System.
4. Next select About.
5. On the About screen, you will find the Network section, which displays the Mac Address.

For some models of TV, you may need to consult the website of your device manufacturer for directions on locating its Mac address.

Sony PlayStation 4 / 5

1. On the PlayStation home screen, arrow up to the very top until we see the menu.
2. Scroll over to the right to Settings
3. For PlayStation 4:
   • Select Network
   • Select View Connection Status.
   • From this area, you can get the WiFi and Ethernet MAC Address.
4. For PlayStation 5:
   • Select System.
   • Select Console Information
   • From this area, you can get the WiFi and Ethernet MAC Address.

Windows 11

1. In your toolbar Search box, type cmd.
2. Right click the Command Prompt Desktop app
3. Once the command prompt appears, type getmac /v
4. Choose the correct line based off of the Connection Name, and network interface you are trying to connect.
5. The MAC address will be listed under Physical Address.
   • Please make sure to note the listing for your connection type. The "Physical Address" listed under Wireless adapter will be used for your wireless connection, and the Ethernet adapter "Physical Address" will be used for your wired connection.

1. Open System Preferences.
2. Select Network.
3. Click the Advanced button.
4. Select the Hardware tab.
5. The MAC address should be listed towards the top.

Alternatively, you can hold the “Alt / Option” key and click the WIFI icon in the top bar of the desktop. The menu that pops up should list the MAC address.

1. From the Main Menu go to Settings
2. Select “System”
3. Toggle down to Network
4. Look for the MAC Address (Wi-Fi)

1. Select “System Settings” from the HOME Menu. System Settings being highlighted on the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu Screen.
2. Scroll down through the menu and select “Internet.”
3. The Nintendo Switch console’s MAC address will be listed under “System MAC Address.”
