Moving from Dell Enterprise Encryption (DEE) to Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) Managed Encryption
Step Overview:
Remove Data from External Media
If you do not use removable media, you can skip this step and go straight to the “Remove Dell Enterprise Encryption…” step.
If you have data on external media, you will need to transfer it from the Dell encrypted drive to another location, as it will become unusable after this process. You should also use this opportunity to consider converting to OneDrive! OneDrive is available to all employees, is safer than removable media, is approved for use with most datatypes, and will save you from future headaches associated with removable media use.
If you have been using Dell encrypted removable media, do the following:
Insert the drive and use the know password to access the data.
Select the files you wish to save and copy them to your desktop or other location (e.g. OneDrive)
Once the data has been copied, make sure the files are accessible
Reformat External Media
This step is only required if you have been using Dell encrypted removable media and you’ve already completed the first step. Otherwise, you can skip this step and go straight to the “Remove Dell Enterprise Encryption…” step.
From File Explorer, right click the drive to format and select “Format…”
Follow the on screen instructions and click “Start”
Remember, this will erase ALL data. So, make sure to select the right drive.
Once the format is complete, you will get the following boxes. Click “OK” on the “Format Complete” box and “No” on the “Dell Encryption” box. At this point eject the drive.
Install Remove Dell Enterprise Encryption from Software Center
Open “Software Center” (Windows Search bar, type Software Center and press enter) and wait for the application “Remove Dell Encryption” to become available
Click “Install” and wait for the application to download and install
After the application has removed Dell Encryption, it will prompt for a restart
Clicking “Restart” will immediately restart the computer, so check for and save any unfinished work first!
