YuJa Panorama

Overview:

YuJa Panorama is an accessibility tool that works within Canvas to help identify issues and improve the accessibility of course content. This tool will help meet the goals laid out by the University for compliance with Title II ADA WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 requirements. 

YuJa Panorama generates accessibility scores and assists faculty, TAs, and staff with remediating documents using AutoPilot and Structural Remediation (for PDF documents.)

Once documents have been made accessible, students are able to generate Alternative Formats that will help them engage with content in formats best suited to their needs. Alternative Formats are only as accessible as the original document.

At the University of Oklahoma, an enterprise license agreement allows all faculty, TAs, staff, and students to use YuJa Panorama in Canvas without a fee.

Getting Started with YuJa Panorama for Faculty

First Steps

1. Remove old, unused files from your course. This will help your score immediately!
2. Run the Course Link Validator and correct any broken links.
   • We strongly suggest using the Internal Course Link Function in the Rich Content Editor (RCE)and not copying a URL for anything within the course. This keeps student access intact when the course is copied in the future.
3. Add Alt Text to Images using one of three ways:
   • In the Canvas Rich Content Editor (RCE).
   • In Canvas Files using YuJa Panorama.
   • Using AutoPilot AI to generate Alt Text, discussed below.
4. Some issues must be resolved in the document’s native software. Check this list for ways to resolve those.

Using YuJa Panorama

1. Run AutoPilot on your course to see where you are and apply the fixes it recommends.
2. If you opted to have AutoPilot AI to generate Alt Text, it is your responsibility to check it for accuracy.
3. Run Structural Remediation for PDFs if needed.

Known Issues

• There is a known issue with captions on videos from MyMedia not being recognized. The workaround is to mark the video as having captions, save the change in YuJa Panorama, and not make any other changes to the page. Let the scan run overnight and then recheck the box that certifies that the video has captions. YuJa is working on a fix for this, but there is no known date for deployment. We do understand this adds extra work and do apologize.
