What are the password guidelines?

All OUHSC users are required to follow these guidelines when changing their password:

  • Password length must be greater than twelve (12) characters, but no more than twenty (20) characters long
  • There must be a combination of upper and lower case characters
  • There must be at least one number (i.e. 0 through 9)
  • Must include at least one (1) special character: ! @ # $ % ^ ( ) _
    • iRIS users do not use passwords that contain: * " ' , / \ - > <
    • EMR users do not use passwords that contain: & <
  • Passwords cannot contain a word from the dictionary.
  • Password cannot contain all or part of the username.
    • This also includes first and/or last name of a person.
  • Password cannot contain all or part of any previous passwords.

Please keep in mind that passwords expire every 365 days and can be changed by going to Self-Service. PingID Two-Factor authentication is required on this site. For recommendations on creating a strong password, please see this article.
