Why?
In support of the Lead On Strategic Plan (Pillar 3, Strategy 1, Tactic 3 - "Promote a unified brand that integrates academics, research, medicine, and athletics...") OU IT has been asked to implement an aggressive plan to provide all Health Sciences users with an @OU.EDU email address.
During the weekend of August 2-3, 2025, OU IT will transition all Health Science user accounts to an @OU.EDU email address. Health Science users will continue to receive email sent to their @OUHSC.EDU email address indefinitely, ensuring uninterrupted communication.
What changes?
- Sign-In Update: Use your @OU.EDU email address when signing into University applications which require email address for authentication (e.g. Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive).
- Email Sending: All outgoing email will now be sent from your @OU.EDU address.
- Recommended Action: For the best experience, please reboot your device, log out and back into all applications after the transition.
What doesn't change?
- Email Delivery: You will continue to receive email at your @OUHSC.EDU address.
- OUHSC Credentials: Your username and password will remain the same.
- Device Login: You will continue logging into your computer the same way.
The following table demonstrates the expected changes and retained settings for a Health Sciences user, represented by Sally Sooner.

How do I find out my @OU.EDU email address?
- For most users, your @OU.EDU email address will match your @OUHSC.EDU email address - only the domain will change.
- For example: sally-sooner@ouhsc.edu => sally-sooner@ou.edu
- The format of your Health Sciences email address will remain firstname-lastname@ou.edu.
- OU IT will send personalized communications with your specific @OU.EDU address:
- Before the transition (during the weeks of July 21 and July 28)
- After the transition is complete
- Examples of these communications can be found in our OUHSC Email Transition Example Communication knowledge base article.
FAQ's
Q: How long will Health Science accounts continue to receive email at the @OUHSC.EDU email address?
A: Indefinitely.
Q: What happens if I already have an OU account with an @OU.EDU email address, will you be merging my Health Sciences and OU account together?
A: Not at this time. Account consolidation is part of the University’s long-term roadmap. Following this transition, your existing OU account will remain unchanged, and your Health Sciences account will now also have an @OU.EDU email address.
Q: Does this transition include shared mailboxes or distribution lists?
A: No. This transition applies only to individual user accounts. While OU IT anticipates that shared mailboxes and distribution lists will eventually move to the @OU.EDU domain, we recognize that this requires further planning and coordination - especially since some @OU.EDU addresses are already in use by departments on the Norman or Tulsa campus.
Q: Will new Health Science accounts receive an @OUHSC.EDU email address?
A: No. After the transition new Health Science accounts will only be assigned an @OU.EDU email address.
Q: Does this transition change any existing business processes, will these accounts be in the Sooner domain?
A: No. This transition targets email address only. Consolidation of business processes and movement from the HSC to Sooner domain is part of the University's long-term roadmap. You can learn more in our Domain Consolidation knowledge base article.
Q: Has OU IT communicated this transition to departments and stakeholders?
A: Yes! OU IT has been actively engaging with departments and stakeholders across all campuses. Communication efforts have included:
- Road shows in Norman, Oklahoma City, and Tulsa
- Presentations to Staff and Faculty Senates
- Meetings with department and college leadership
- Outreach to students
- Ongoing collaboration with OU Health and other key partners
These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure a smooth and well-informed transition.
