Getting Started with Sooner Card in Apple Wallet

Now you can add your Sooner Card to Apple Wallet on iPhone or Apple Watch and use it anywhere the physical Sooner Card is accepted. Open a door, enjoy a meal, pick up a package or attend an event all with a simple tap of your Apple device.

Here’s what you need

Who’s eligible for the Sooner Card

  • Any student currently enrolled at the University of Oklahoma Norman campus.
  • Any faculty or staff member currently employed at the University of Oklahoma Norman campus.

In order to use Sooner Card in Apple Wallet, you must agree to the Sooner Card Terms and Conditions.  Your Sooner Card may be set up on one iPhone and one Apple Watch at any given time.

How to use

When you add Sooner Card to Apple Wallet1, you can tap wherever your plastic Sooner Card is accepted. Simply hold the top of your iPhone or Apple Watch to the reader. You’ll see done and a checkmark on the display. Your iPhone or Apple Watch must be turned on, but it doesn’t have to be connected to a network. You don’t need to unlock your device or open an app when you use a reader.

Express Mode

On compatible devices2 your Sooner Card is enabled by default in Express Mode.  This mode allows you to use your Sooner Card without requiring Touch ID, Face ID, or passcode.

Express Mode can be turned off to require Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode at all readers.

Express Cards with Power Reserve

On compatible devices3, your Sooner Card can be available up to ~5 or more hours after the battery has died on a device. Simply long-hold the power button to see the text at the bottom of the screen saying that "Express Cards are available for use" then hold it to any Sooner Card reader. Haptic feedback will be received after a successful transaction.

  1. The mobile credential and express mode is compatible with iPhone 6S and later and Apple Watch Series 1 and later.
  2. Express Mode settings can be accessed on the back of your Sooner Card in Apple Wallet.  On iPhone open Wallet > Select your Sooner Card > Tap the ellipsis (…) icon > Express Mode. For Apple Watch, on iPhone open the Watch app > Tap Wallet & Apple Pay > Select your Sooner Card > Express Mode.
  3. Express Cards with power reserve are compatible with iPhone XR, XS, and later.
  4. Sooner Sense is an optional declining balance account that can be used for on-campus payments wherever the Sooner Card is accepted.
