Alertus – Desktop Campus Emergency Notifications

Introducing Alertus, OU’s newest OU Alert tool for all-campus emergency notifications. In case of an emergency that warrants an OU Alert be sent to the campus community, Alertus will automatically flash a message on users’ screens, warning the campus community of imminent danger, such as a tornado warning. The user must be logged onto an OU server via a WIFI or Ethernet connection to receive the desktop notification.

The flash message will overlay the screen and disappear after the user hits an “Acknowledge” button. The message does not disable or interrupt the user’s programs or applications.

Information Technology departments have begun installing the desktop notification on all fixed computers in computer labs as well as computers in classrooms. Additionally, Alertus is available for download for free by students, staff and faculty. Step-by-step instructions can be found below if you wish to download Alertus.

If you have any questions or problems with the download, please contact OU IT Helpdesk at If you have other questions, please contact Lisa Teel, OU Emergency Preparedness Manager at
