Download and Connect via OU VPN

The VPN software is a free download for students, faculty, and staff and offers 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility with the following operating systems:

  • Windows – Instructions below
  • Mac – Instructions here
  • Linux

Please note that if you are using OU VPN and will be sending your OU mail via SMTP, you will need to choose the “Default user split-tunnel” option in the Group drop menu during sign on.

 

INSTRUCTIONS TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL OU VPN:

  1. Log in to customapps.ou.edu/studio/itstore/Download with your OUNet ID and password
  2. Under Select Platform, pick PC, and then select the “VPN” Software Type, Download and install the Cisco AnyConnect for Windows VPN Client.
  3. Once installed, the Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client program will typically be found in your Program/Applications list in a folder named Cisco.
  • Note: If you are unable to download the OU VPN from the IT Store, you can still access the VPN by going directly to https://soonerconnect1.ou.edu. Please choose “Default user split-tunnel” and enter your OUNet ID and password.

 

Installation Instructions

  • Unzip the download
  • Run the Installer
  • Click Next->Accept->Install->Finish

 

Cisco 4.5 Configured Setup

  1. After launching the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility client, hit the Connect button and you will receive a prompt to enter a Username and Password. Your username is your OUNet ID and the password is your OU password.
  2. Hit Accept to agree to the license terms. The client will then connect and remain in your taskbar. While connected your machine can now connect to network resources like network drives, printers and the OU software license servers.

 

Cisco 4.5 Unconfigured Setup

  1. If upon launching the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client no settings are configured, the AnyConnect Client can be configured to connect to the OU VPN server.
  2. In the VPN: Ready to connect field, enter either:
    • soonerconnect1.ou.edu
    • soonerconnect2.ou.edu
  3. Hit the Connect button and you will receive a prompt to enter a Username and Password. Your username is your OUNet ID and the password is your OU password.
  4. Hit Accept to agree to the license terms. The client will then connect and remain in your taskbar. While connected your machine can now connect to network resources like network drives, printers and the OU software license servers.

 

Cisco VPN Client

  1. If the Cisco VPN Client was installed, click to open the client.
  2. Next Double click on the “Cox to OU-Norman Campus” Connection entry.
  3. Enter your OUNet ID and password and then click OK and then “Continue”.
  4. The client will then connect and remain in your taskbar. While connected your machine can now connect to network resources like network drives, printers and the OU software license servers.
