More Information
Spam Calls: Spam calls are similar to email spam in the sense that they're a form of unwanted communication. Spam calls and text messages are distributed in bulk and in most cases unsolicited, which means they occur without any prior request. Spam calls and calls from telemarketers cannot be blocked unless the callers are abusive or it is suspected that the callers are attempting to commit fraud.
Call Spoofing: Call spoofing is when the caller sends a different callback number than the actual number they are calling from. Spoofing is only illegal if the caller is not authorized to use the number or they are attempt to commit fraud. We cannot block spoofed numbers from calling the university. We also cannot prevent callers from spoofing university numbers. If it is suspected that a university number is being spoofed by an outside entity, our only course of action is to report the incident to the Federal Communications Commission and Federal Trade Commission.
