Mac Remote Decryption Process

*Make sure your power cable is connected and you have a internet connection.

  • Click on the Apple logo on the top left corner of your computer screen. Then click on "System Preferences..."

  •  Inside the "System Preferences..." window on the 2nd row you will see the "Energy Saver" application. Open it.

  •  Once inside the "Energy Saver" application, click on the "Power Adapter" tab and move the slider to "Never" turn my computer off.

 

  • Inside the "System Preferences..." window on the lower left corner you will see the "Dell Data Protection" application. Open it.

  • Once inside the DDP application, click on the "Policies" tab and then towards the bottom there will be a refresh button. Click it and you should received a "Refresh Completed" messaged. 

  • Then click on the "System Volumes" tab and wait for your hard drive to start decrypting. It can take anywhere from 5-10 minutes to start decrypting. After 5-10 minutes, if your computer does not start decrypting you may restart it. Navigate back to the Dell Data Protection app and wait another 5-10 minutes. After restarting your computer, if decrypting hasn't started see the note in red below. 

  • Depending on how big your hard drive is, it can take up to 4+ hours to decrypt. Make sure your computer is connected to a power outlet. Once fully decrypted the status of your hard drive will be "Excluded"

  • Once your computer is fully decrypted, come by IT Service Desk located in the Student Union Room 105. The remaining Device Security Clinic software will be removed.

 

NOTE: If the decryption doesn't start on your Mac after you've completed these steps, please do the following:

  1. Go to System Preferences.
  2. Go to Privacy and Security.
  3. Click on the FileVault tab.
  4. In the lower left corner, click on the lock; put in your Mac password.
  5. Once FileVault is unlocked, click on the button, "Turn OFF FileVault..." (You might have to put in your password again).
  6. At the verification window, click the "Turn Off Encryption" button.
  7. Once your computer is fully decrypted, schedule an appointment (using link in the email you were sent) with the IT Service Desk located at the Student Union Room 105. The remaining Device Security Clinic software will be removed.
