Upgrading to Windows 10 Education

Faculty/Staff - Please submit a request for your onsite to talk through the update options for your university computer.

Students - Please see below for your update options.

 

Windows Education Update

Follow this guide to upgrade your computer from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Education.

  • Your computer must have at least the following hardware specifications:
    • Processor: Intel i5 or better
    • Memory: 8GB RAM or better (4GB minimum)
    • Storage: 256GB Solid State Drive (128GB minimum)
    • Screen size: 13" or higher
    • Connectivity: WiFi and Bluetooth
    • Expansion: USB 3 or higher
  • Backup your data.
  • Computer must be running Windows 10 Home. If you're computer is running Windows 10 Enterprise or Professional do not change to Education.
  • If your computer is running a different version of Windows, backup your data, go to ouhsc.edu/registerdevice and request encryption at the HSC campus in OKC. We will have to delete all data from the computer and install Windows 10 Education.
  • If you have an antivirus already installed (McAfee, Symantec, Avast, etc.), please uninstall it before you begin. Microsoft’s Windows Defender is allowed. If you don’t uninstall your existing antivirus, it will cause a decrease in speed of your computer and make your computer more vulnerable to viruses and malware.

 

  1. Go to it.ouhsc.edu/mssoftware and log in with HSC credentials.

     
  2. Agree to the terms, click “Continue”.

     
  3. Select “Windows 10”.

     
  4. Click “Add to Cart”.

     
  5. Uncheck “Office Home & Business 2019 (MAC/PC)”. Leave “Office Professional Plus 2019 (PC Only)” checked.

     
  6. Click “Check Out” (you may have to scroll down).

     
  7. Sign User Acceptance form (HSC user name, Firstname, Lastname); click “Accept”.

     
  8. Fill out the Contact Information (Firstname, Lastname, email address); click “Proceed with Order”.

     
  9. Copy Windows 10 Education and Office Professional Plus 2019 Product Keys.

     
  10. Click the Windows key in the lower left corner of your computer’s desktop; type Notepad; press the Enter key.

     
  11. Paste Product Keys; save as “MSProdKeys”.



     
  12. Click “Hello, …” in upper right corner; click “Sign Out”.

     
  13. In Windows, click the Windows start button in the lower left corner; click “Settings” (gear icon on the left).

     
  14. Click “System” (upper left corner).

     
  15. Scroll down on the left; click “About”. Scroll down on the right to “Windows specifications”. If you’re running Windows 10 Home, click “Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows”.
     
     
  16. In the Activation window, click “Change product key”.

 

  1. If you still have the product key copied, paste it in the field provided and click “Next” (If you don’t have the product key copied, navigate to where your saved it earlier, copy it, and paste it in the field provided and click “Next”).

     
  2. Windows will now upgrade to Education edition; click “Start”.

     
  3. After preparing the upgrade, Windows will restart and add new features

     
  4. Once Windows has restarted again, sign back in.
  5. Click the Windows start button in the lower left corner; click “Settings” (gear icon on the left).

     
  6. Click “System” (upper left corner)

     
  7. Scroll down on the left side; click “About.” scroll down on the right to “Windows specifications” and verify you’re now on Windows 10 Education.

     
  8. Click “Settings” in the upper left corner.

     
  9. Click “Updates & Security”.

     
  10. Click “Advanced options”.

     
  11. Scroll down to “Choose when updates are installed;” defer feature updates for 365 days and security updates for 30 days.

     
  12. Scroll back up to top. Under “Update options,” turn ON updates for other Microsoft products. Under “Update notifications,” turn ON notifications for restarts (in some versions of Windows 10, notifications and options have merged to “Update Options”).

     
  13. Click “Settings” in the upper left corner.


     
  14. You should be on the “Windows Update” window. Click “Check for updates”.

     
  15. Updates will install and Windows will probably need to restart.

     
  16. Once Windows restarts, sign back in.
  17. Click the Windows start button in the lower left corner; click “Settings” (gear icon on the left).

     
  18. Click “Updates & Security”.

     
  19. Click “Check for updates”.

     
  20. Repeat steps 32-35 until the message states, “You’re up to date”.
