Database as a Service

Database as a Service is a managed service, offered on a pay-per-usage basis, that provides on-demand access to a database for the storage of application data. We offer two separate solutions, Oracle and SQL.

Each solution has several offerings:

 

Oracle as a Service SQL as a Service
Oracle Database as a service (ODBaaS) provides a convenient option for deploying enterprise ready databases running in the OU Shared Services Data Centers. This service offers rapid provisioning, high and consistent performance, and excellent support. ODBaaS is fast, flexible, simple, and scalable. Shared Services SQL Database is a relational database-as-a-service that delivers predictable performance, scalability, business continuity, data protection, and near-zero administration to developers, departments and other application providers.

Oracle Schema

The shared instance requires less configuration on the part of the customers and has built in redundancy and disaster recovery.

Oracle Database

The database is fully customizable by the customer and both redundancy and disaster recovery options are available at an additional cost.

SQL Database

The shared instance requires less configuration on the part of the customers and has built in redundency and disaster recovery.

  • Database-only Replication for data protection included
  • Back up required (additional cost)
  • Storage Required (additional cost)
    • Storage will be 2x the base price due to Replication
    • Additional Storage will be consumed due to back ups
  • Available based on application compatibility only; some work loads may required a Dedicated Oracle Environment
  • Up to 4GB Dedicated RAM
    • Limited additional 1GB RAM increments (additional cost)
  • Independent database management
  • Single location, unless Replication option is selected
  • Storage Required (additional cost)
    • Storage will be 2x the base price if Replication is enabled (opitional)
    • Additional storage will be consumed due to back ups
    • Additional storage may be consumed by Point in Time recovery
  • Additional Features:
    • Enterprise back up
    • Replication
    • Point in Time Recovery
  • Shared RAM
  • Database-only Replication enabled

Cost

  • Oracle Schema: $66.67 per schema per month
  • Oracle Database: $133.33 per month (4GB RAM)
    • Additional Memory: $33.33 per GB per month
  • SQL Database: $170 per month

Availability

  • OU faculty, staff, departments and groups
  • OU students and student groups with departments sponsorship

  • Daily SnapShot with 2 week retention (adjustable)
  • Initial set-up (includes access and firewall)
  • Sensitive data storage with OU IT security consultation
  • Storage billed on usage/consumption rather than blocks
  • Support from local Service Desk and OU IT Shared Services staff
