Research Colocation

Research Colocation is targeted toward OU research teams and their collaborators who maintain investments in computer and storage assets in support of ongoing research activities. The offering provides an optimum, physical environment at the University of Oklahoma for colocation of compute, storage and data intensive research systems within an on-premise, private cloud that spans multiple datacenter locations.

Cost

There are no costs associated with this service for OU research teams and their collaborators.

Additional services, consumables, network connections, and/or utility customizations may be subject to fees. Any fees will be communicated ahead of time as part of the initial consultation.

This Service is available to OU research teams and their collaborators who maintain investments in computer and storage assets in support of ongoing research activities.

Features

The Research Colocation Service includes:

  • Initial consultation  
  • Hardware installation  
  • Network configuration  
  • Dedicated data connection (10Gbps, single per system)  
  • Dedicated management connection (Gigabit Ethernet, single per system)  
  • Power connections as currently available in the data centers  
  • Cooling as currently available in the data centers  
  • Physical security, including escort or card access to cabinets  
  • Hardware decommission and removal post life-cycle  

One-time and/or recurring fees will be charged for:  

  • Additional and/or faster data connections [see IT Service Catalog]  
  • OU IT storage platform resources consumed [see Research Matrix and IT Service Catalog]  
  • Customized utilities, including non-standard power or cooling modifications [pricing as needed]  
  • Additional or custom ancillary equipment and/or services [pricing as needed]  

Technical specifications for the service are:  

  • Supports standard, 19” wide equipment, up to 30” deep  
  • RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet connection(s) provided for system management  
  • At least 10Gbps Ethernet connection(s) provided for data transport  
  • Public/Private IP address assignments allocated as required  
  • Remote access services (e.g. VPN, VDI)  
  • Secure, physical access per equipment cabinet (expected early 2021)  
  • Up to 5 KW of power per rack, 240 VAC power with 20 Amp, C-13/C-19 locking receptacles, dual power connections from separate bus bar power feeds (additional power per rack expected early 2021)  
  • Up to 5 KW of cooling per rack (additional cooling per rack expected early 2021)
