Print BitLocker Recovery Key

When encrypting your device using BitLocker, you be asked how you wish to back up your recovery key.

Using "Print the recovery key" to print to PDF or to a local printer

1. Select the "Print the recovery key" option seen on the BitLocker Drive Encryption screen.                                             
2. In the Print window, select your trusted local printer or select Microsoft Print to PDF.                                             
3. If you selected your local printer, selecting Print will print the key. If you selected Microsoft Print to PDF you will be prompted to save the key in a new file. Make sure you name and save the file to My Documents, Desktop, or wherever your save your files.                                             
   • Once you have the BitLocker Recovery Key saved, you will need to email it to a personal email address that is always accessible to you. (Not your OU or OU HSC Email Address).
4. It is vital that you have your Recovery Key saved somewhere that is not on the computer that you are trying to encrypt.
