When encrypting your device using BitLocker, you be asked how you wish to back up your recovery key.
Using "Print the recovery key" to print to PDF or to a local printer
- Select the "Print the recovery key" option seen on the BitLocker Drive Encryption screen.

- In the Print window, select your trusted local printer or select Microsoft Print to PDF.

- If you selected your local printer, selecting Print will print the key. If you selected Microsoft Print to PDF you will be prompted to save the key in a new file. Make sure you name and save the file to My Documents, Desktop, or wherever your save your files.
- Once you have the BitLocker Recovery Key saved, you will need to email it to a personal email address that is always accessible to you. (Not your OU or OU HSC Email Address).
- It is vital that you have your Recovery Key saved somewhere that is not on the computer that you are trying to encrypt.
