Office for Windows Volume License Script

Body

The following instructions are for volume license installs of Office, seen on OU owned computers.

With volume license Office for Windows installations, the university software contacts a licensing server in order to validate and open. If a user is on campus, they need to be connected through Ethernet or through OU Wifi. If one is off campus, they will need to connect to the OU VPN. Note that the non-volume license installations of Office which install through a Product Key will not need VPN.

To access VPN, one needs to connect to the GlobalProtect VPN.

If an Office for Windows user is having issues with Office not reaching this server, please try the following (also please ensure your date/time is correctly set):

Open a command prompt as an administrator. To do this, type cmd in the Run dialogue, right click on the Command program and click Run as Administrator. In the command window which opens, type the following:

Manual Office Activation

  • Open a command prompt with elevated permissions (right-click and select run as administrator)

  • Navigate to the Office installation folder using the cd command (Example: cd C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16). These are the typical folder locations:
    • Office 2016/2019 32-bit: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16
    • Office 2016/2019 64-bit: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16

  • Run the following command to point Office to the KMS server:
    • cscript ospp.vbs /sethst:S2-mslicensing.net.ou.edu

  • Run the following command to activate Office:
    • cscript ospp.vbs /act

This should point Office to the correct licensing server. If there are still issues present, please submit a help request.
