Your OUNet Account is your key to accessing OU resources such as email, enrollment, grades, course materials, campus WiFi, university-owned computers, employee payroll self-service, OU Libraries resources, etc. If you are a new employee or student, setting up your account is your first step to accessing most resources.
Your account must first be created in order for you to be able to set it up. Depending on what type of account you are receiving, a different time line will apply for account creation.
- Student accounts are created typically within three days of receiving an acceptance letter to the University. Please read your letter carefully, as some early admits are directed to wait until a later date to set up their account.
- Employee accounts are typically created the day after the hiring department submits the hire request to Human Resources, which takes place after the new employee has completed new employee paperwork.
If you encounter any issues, please contact OU IT for assistance.
Set up your OUNet Account:
- Navigate to one.ou.edu/activate. Alternatively, you may navigate to one.ou.edu and select “New to OU? Set up your OU account".
- Near the field for "OU username", select the "What's this?" link. Alternatively, if you know your OUNetID, proceed to step #3 below.
- Input your nine-digit Sooner ID or Social Security Number in the first field, then your date of birth in the second field. Select "Continue".
- If your account is ready to be set up, you'll be presented with your OUNetID (username).
- Your OUNetID is made up of the first four letters of your last name, followed by four numbers. For example, John Smith might have an OUNetID of smit0000. Your OUNetID will serve as your username for logging into OU systems.
- If you have not been provided with a nine-digit OU ID and you are unable to utilize the option to input your Social Security Number to retrieve your OUNetID, please contact OU IT at (405) 325-HELP.
- Enter your OUNetID and Date of Birth (MM/DD/YYYY) and then select the "Identify account" button.
- Enter your personal (non-OU) email account. Once sent, obtain the code from your personal email account and input it into the correct field.
- Set an OUIDPIN that you will remember. You can read more about OUIDPINs in our OUIDPIN Verification article.
- OU IT will never call/text/email you to ask you for this number. Do not provide it to anyone unless you have called OU IT directly for account assistance.
- Create a password for your account following the instructions and password requirements on the page.
- OU IT strongly recommends setting a unique password for your OU account. Do not re-use a password that you utilize for other services.
- Enroll at least one authentication method with PingID.
- Unless you are connected to the campus network, you are required to utilize PingID to sign into One.ou.edu, email, and other services.
- OU IT highly recommends setting up multiple authentication methods such as mobile app, SMS text message, and/or voice call.
- You can read more about PingID in our PingID FAQ or PingID Enrollment articles.
After completing the account set up (inputting a personal email, setting an OUIDPIN, setting a password, and enrolling in PingID), we also recommend that you log in to one.ou.edu to update additional information. This can be done by selecting your photo/initials in the top right, selecting "Account Settings", then navagating through different menu options to ensure that you information is correct.
