Canvas – Creating a Turnitin Assignment with the Plagiarism Framework

The Canvas Plagiarism Framework is designed for instructors who want to use the Turnitin service for plagiarism detection. All assignment feedback and grading activities take place within SpeedGrader and/or the Canvas Gradebook. 

Note: OU does not currently have the AI detection enabled for Turnitin. 

To add the Plagiarism Framework to an assignment: 

  1. Start a New Assignment or open the Edit Assignment page for an upcoming assignment. Add or update assignment details (name, description, point value, etc.)  

  1. In the Submission Type field, select Online from the dropdown menu, then check the box next to File Upload; this will populate the Plagiarism Review option.

  2. Scroll down the Edit Assignment page. Under the Plagiarism Review section, use the drop-down menu to select TurnitinTurnitin Plagiarism Review Dropdown Selection
  1. Once the Turnitin tool loads, select your preferred settings and options. Turnitin Plagiarism Options and Settings       

  2. Note: Turnitin can be used for drafts-choose Do not store the submitted papers in the Store submissions in dropdown menu.                     Do Not Store the Submitted Papers Selection in Turnitin Settings.

  1. Save the Assignment to continue drafting or choose Save and Publish if ready.
