Outlook Search Behavior
Following the email transition for Health Science users to OU.EDU it's important to understand how Outlook handles search across email addresses, even though they belong to the same account.
Classic Outlook
- Search is email address specific.
- If a user searches for the contact Sally Sooner, results will only include email associated with the current primary address, sally-sooner@ou.edu
- To find communications for Sally Sooner pre-transition, the search must be specific to the alternative email address, sally-sooner@ouhsc.edu.
New Outlook
- Search is account based and not tied to a specific email address.
- If a user searches for the contact Sally Sooner, results will include emails associated with the account belonging to Sally Sooner including sally-sooner@ou.edu and sally-sooner@ouhsc.edu.
OU IT recognizes that not all users will utilize New Outlook as Classic Outlook provides features which are not available in New Outlook. Please review the Microsoft knowledge base article Feature comparison between between new Outlook and classic Outlook or contact your Mission Support representative to discuss options.
Alternative Search Techniques for Classic Outlook Users
- Perform the search via https://outlook.office.com, which utilizes account based searching.
- Perform the search on a mobile device with the Outlook app, which utilized account based searching.
- Include an "OR" statement in your Classic Outlook search.
