As part of the One OU strategy, University leadership desires for all individuals to utilize @OU.EDU emails. OU IT has been asked to implement a more aggressive plan to facilitate the strategy and enhance the user experience. The movement to @OU.EDU will impact all parts of the Health Sciences organization, including the HSC domain (e.g. users, workstations, servers, service accounts, and security groups). Below you will find information about the the movement to @OU.EDU, including timeline and impacts.

OUHSC Windows Device Migration
As part of the "One OU" university-wide initiative to improve and streamline the way work, the OU Information Technology department will be moving Windows computers from the OUHSC domain to the SOONER domain from September 9th 2024 through February 28th 2025.
What does this mean to me?
- You will need to login to your computer with the characters “ouhsc\” in front of your username (e.g. ouhsc\ZSMITH5). Alternatively, you can use your OUHSC email address as your username. Your computer should remember this after your first logon, but familiarize yourself with this formatting, as it will be useful in the future as other university systems move to the SOONER domain.
- You may receive errors connecting to departmental file shares and printers after this change. Please complete the College and Departmental Device Support Service Request.
- No other impacts are expected – your computer should look and feel just as it did before this change.
Why is this happening?
This is one of the first visible changes the University of Oklahoma will be making in an effort to get all OU users into a single domain. Eventually, all university employees and students will have an “@ou.edu” address for use with university systems and email. No other changes are being made to your "@ouhsc.edu" account, the systems you access, or your email at this time. The process to establish "One OU" domain is very complex and will happen in multiple phases over many months. We appreciate your patience and assistance as OU IT makes the necessary changes.
OU.EDU Email Alias
Action: OUHSC account holders will receive an @OU.EDU email alias on their account. The @OU.EDU email alias will not be visible. For 99% of users the @OU.EDU email alias will mirror their @OUHSC.EDU email address but will end in @OU.EDU. Example: Boomer-Sooner@OUHSC.EDU will have an alias of Boomer-Sooner@OU.EDU.
Impacted Groups: This action is targeted email accounts for all OUHSC people (students, employees, guests, affiliates). This action is not targeted at shared mailboxes, distribution lists, or security groups.
OU.EDU Email Address Become Primary
Action:
Existing OUHSC account holders will have their primary email address changed to the @OU.EDU email address. The @OU.EDU email address will be the primary sending/receiving email for all university communication. The @OUHSC.EDU email address will become an alias on the account. This means that the @OUHSC.EDU email address will still receive email (e.g. CV's, Research Papers, Dissertations will be delivered to the user). The @OU.EDU email alias will not be visible.
New OUHSC account holders will only receive an @OU.EDU email address, by default.
Impacted Groups: This action is targeted email accounts for all OUHSC people (students, employees, guests, affiliates). This action is not targeted at shared mailboxes, distribution lists, or security groups.
Additional Information: OUHSC accounts, new and existing, will remain in the OUHSC domain. This action does not begin the movement of user accounts into the Sooner domain.
Less Passwords
Action: OU IT will be working with departments to streamline the authentication process and reduce the need to enter your password in every application. This will be done by consolidating authentication systems to the University managed Single Sign On (SSO) provider and arranging applications into like buckets (e.g. student, administration, research). This change includes moving our ERP systems behind SSO.
FAQ's
Q: Will my OUHSCID be changing as part of the email projects?
A. No. Your will continue to use the same OUHSCID for authentication to university systems.
Q: What happens if I already have an @OU.EDU email account? Will I only have 1 account now?
A. Unfortunately, no. The email project is not scoped to consolidate identity and accounts. Users which have an account in the HSC and Sooner domains will continue to have both accounts.
Q: Will I be able to set an email alias like accounts in Sooner?

Q: What will happen to existing shared resources and distribution lists?
A: When available, existing resources will be migrated to @OU.EDU. They will continue to receive mail at the @OUHSC.EDU address and will receive a new @OU.EDU address which will be the primary sending address.
