File Storage: How to connect and disconnect a network drive in Windows 8

To create a shortcut to a network drive

Option 1

  1. Use the Windows Shortcut (Windows Logo + [E] to start the Win-8 Explorer to see the “My Computer” screen
  2. Click on Drive Tools – Computer TAB & select the Map Network Drive icon
  3. Select the Map Network Drive & type in the path: \\server name\share name

 

Option 2

  1. Open Computer by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Computer in the search box, tapping or clicking Apps, and then tapping or clicking Computer.
  2. In the Menu bar, tap or click Computer, and then tap or click Map network drive.
  3. In the Drive list, tap or click a drive letter. You can choose any available letter.
  4. In the Folder box, enter the path: \\server name\share name
  5. To connect every time you sign in to your computer, select the Reconnect at sign-in check box.
  6. Tap or click Finish.

 

How to Disconnect a Map Network Drive

Option 1

  1. Use the Windows Shortcut (Windows Logo + [E] to start the Win-8 Explorer to see the “My Computer” screen.
  2. Click on Drive Tools - Computer TAB & select the Map Network Drive icon
  3. Select Disconnect network drive.

 

Option 2

  1. OR, you can right-click on the mapped drive and choose disconnect.
