Mac User's SharePoint (Team Collaboration) FAQs

If you are a Mac user, you probably have many questions on what you can and cannot do in SharePoint. This page attempts to answer several of those questions. If you know of any errors or other useful information, please share! share@ou.edu

 

Can Mac users use SharePoint 2010?

Yes. Chrome, Firefox, and Safari are supported browsers with a few limitations. 

 

Can I upload a file or multiple files to SharePoint using a Mac?

  • Upload a File: Yes, Mac users can upload a file.
     
  • Upload Multiple Files: No, Mac users cannot use the 'Multiple File Upload' feature.
     
  • Virtualization is a solution with the Internet Explorer browser.
     
  • Microsoft Document Connection: This is a feature that is included in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 2 (SP2). It can be used to connect to documents that are located on a SharePoint site or Microsoft Office Live Workspace.  Multiple file upload is simple with this applicaton - just drag and drop.  More info is located here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2224165
     

Can I have Explorer View in a Mac?

  • No - Windows and Mac have different protocols to handle this.

Can I use the Ribbon Commands for 'Connect to Outlook, Excel and Workspace' if I have Office for Mac 2011 installed?

Unfortunately, no. These features use Active X controls and are problematic.
 

Can I use an iPad or iPhone with SharePoint 2010?

How do I use Infopath/OneNote/Access/Visio on SharePoint with a Mac?

Since these applications are not existing in current Office for Mac 2011 release, the only way to us them on a Mac is to use virtualization. Your SharePoint server may have some service options for these features and we recommend you contact the Share admin share@ou.edu
 

Does Media Web Part work on a Mac?

Yes, you need to install SilverLight for Mac to use it.
 

Can I insert HTML5 video content to SharePoint so it can work with a Mac?

Yes. Upload the video to any document library and reference it in your video tag. You can find more info here.
