Joining the SOONER domain

Windows 10:

  1. Click the “Start” menu button, then select the “Settings” option
  2. Click “System” button
  3. Click “About” on the bottom left, then select “Rename PC”
  4. Type in the name of your computer, and then click the “Next” button
  5. Click the “Restart now” button
  6. After computer restarts, log back in to, click on the “Start” menu button, select “Settings”, then select “System”
  7. Click “About” and “Join a domain” button
  8. Type in the sooner domain: “sooner.net.ou.edu” and click the “Next” button
  9. Type in your OUNet ID and password, then click the “OK” button
  10. Click the “Account type” button if you want to switch from “Standard” to “Administrator”, then click the “Next” button
  11. Click the “Restart now” button. The computer will restart.
  12. After the computer restarts, click the “OK” button to accept the terms
  13. Type in your OUNet ID and password. You may have to click the “Other user” button at the bottom left
  14. The first time you log into the computer with your OU account, it will take a bit to set up your account on the computer.

 

Mac OS X

Make sure that you are logged into a local administrator account

  1. Click the Apple menu at the top left the screen and select “System Preferences”
  2. Click the “Sharing” button
  3. Type in what you want the name of your computer to be on the domain, then click “return” or “enter” on your keyboard to change the name
  4. Click the magnifying glass icon in the top right of the menu bar to open Spotlight, then type in “Directory Utility” to search for the OS X Directory Utility, and click “return” or “enter” on the keyboard to launch
  5. Once the Directory Utility is open, click the lock button on the bottom left of the window
  6. Type in your local user account name and password to unlock
  7. Once unlocked, select “Active Directory” and then click the pen button to edit
  8. Type in ‘sooner.net.ou.edu’ in the “Active Directory Domain:” field, then click the arrow on the left to reveal more options
  9. Click the “Administrative” button, then click the checkbox next to the “Allow administration by:”, then click the “Bind…” button
  10. Type in your OUNet ID and password, then click the “OK” button
  11. Click “OK” button again
  12. Close System Preferences, then log out of the local user account
  13. Click on the “Other…” button
  14. Type in your OUNet ID and password to log into the computer using your OU account
  15. The first time you log into the Mac with your OU account it can take a bit of time because it is setting up your account for the first time
